A story that avoids easy answers

Sharing thoughts about the film, the Accused team said, “Accused is the kind of story that stays with you because it refuses to simplify human behaviour or moral conflict. Anubhuti has crafted a deeply nuanced film that places women at the centre of a narrative we rarely explore, one where power, perception, and belief are constantly shifting.”

“With Konkona and Pratibha leading the film, we’re looking at a relationship tested not just by accusation, but by doubt itself. It’s a story told with restraint, empathy, and courage, and we’re proud to bring it to Netflix, a platform that has supported the film’s intent to provoke thought rather than judgment.”

At the heart of doubt and accusation

With Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Rannta leading the film, Accused focuses on a relationship tested not just by an accusation, but by doubt itself. The makers said the story is told with restraint and empathy, choosing to provoke thought rather than pass judgment.

Produced by Dharma Productions, the film follows a reputed doctor living in London whose carefully built life begins to fall apart after she is accused of sexual misconduct.

When perception becomes reality

As the accusation draws public scrutiny and opinions harden, the film explores how quickly perception can shape reality. It also looks at the emotional toll this takes on the doctor’s closest relationships, especially when certainty is impossible to reach.

By placing a woman at the centre of the accusation, Accused unfolds as a story of one woman’s word against another, asking viewers to sit with discomfort rather than rushing to conclusions.

Netflix calls it a powerful, character-driven film

Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films at Netflix India, said “Accused is a meaningful, emotionally resonant film that explores truth, belief, and the personal consequences of an accusation.”

“Anubhuti Kashyap’s sensitivity and restraint add depth to a powerful subject. With standout performances from Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Rannta, the film embodies the kind of layered, character-driven storytelling Netflix stands behind.”
